A Little Angel

Rockstar Ronan... a beautiful boy who passed away from Stage 4 Neuroblastoma cancer in May of 2011 a.  His story, told by his mother Maya Thompson, is gut-wrenching and sad.  I've spent the last four days obsessively listening to Taylor Swift's song Ronan, written for him through the use of his mother's words taken from her blog.

My heart aches for Maya, for the son she lost, whose life was cut short by this horrible disease, and whom she never had the opportunity to watch grow up, graduate from high school or college, attend prom, start his first job, or even get married and have children of his own.

What a beautiful soul this little boy is.  And through his life and death, his story inspires so many.  Thank you, Taylor Swift, for helping his story reach millions!

Read Maya and Ronan's story at

Also, if you purchase "Ronan" from iTunes, the proceeds will go to cancer-related charities.  Or you can donate directly to the Ronan Thompson Foundation below like I did.  It's easy and painless - unlike the awful disease that Ronan had to live and die with.

New Ventures

So I've started my own business with my father.  Earlier this year he started importing products from around the world and reselling on Ebay.  This has now turned into a full fledged online store.  Peddler's Cart is an online shop where you can purchase accessories for your iPhone, fashion accessories such as reading glasses, sunglasses or jewelry, and even pool supplies.  Stop by when you have a chance and please help promote the heck out of it.  I'd be ever so grateful!

Don't forget to tell me your thoughts on the new site!

Change My Needs

Scars on 45 is hands down one of the most entertaining shows I've seen.  True musical talent.  Aimee Driver's voice is angelic and Change My Needs highlights her unique tone.  Back when I was a teenager there was a pop group from the Midwest called PC Quest.  Aimee's voice is highly reminiscent of singer Kim Whipkey's childlike tone.

Give it a listen yourself.

Another impeccable Aimee song: Promises and Empty Words

The Fray Get in on the National Anthem

So many people have passed judgment on The Fray's version of the National Anthem but I think it's a beautifully unique rendition.  What are your thoughts?

Mike Sanchez Singing Richard Marx Endless Summer Nights

Ever since I saw singer Mike Sanchez's tweet about his version of Richard Marx's "Endless Summer Nights," I have the song on repeat on my youtube channel.  Such a classic song which reminds me of childhood.  Check it out here!  In LOVE with this song.

Thrive

Having experienced a spiritual tsunami in my mid-30s, I identify with "Thrive," a track on Switchfoot's latest LP Vice Verses.  Jon Foreman is a lyrical genius, striking a nerve with each chord and every word.  A song about not just getting by in life but living with purpose, this song exemplifies where I am in life.

Loving life in the moment but looking forward to meeting my musical heroes for the first time in October when they hit the stage in Santa Cruz.  Ready or not, Switchfoot here I come!

Thrive

Lyrics By Switchfoot

Been fighting things that I can't see in
Like voices coming from the inside of me and
Like doing things I find hard to believe in
Am I myself or am I dreaming?

I've been awake for an hour or so
Checking for a pulse but I just don't know
Am I a man when I feel like a ghost?
The stranger in the mirror is wearing my clothes

No I'm not alright
I know that I'm not right
A steering wheel don't mean you can drive
A warm body don't mean I'm alive
No I'm not alright
I know that I'm not right
Feels like I travel but I never arrive
I want to thrive not just survive

I come alive when I hear you singing
But lately I haven't been hearing a thing and
I get the feeling that I'm in between
A machine and a man who only looks like me
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/s/switchfoot/thrive.html ]
I try and hide it and not let it show
But deep down inside me I just don't know
Am I a man when I feel like a hoax?
The stranger in the mirror is wearing my clothes

No I'm not alright
I know that I'm not right
A steering wheel don't mean you can drive
A warm body don't mean I'm alive
No I'm not alright
I know that I'm not right
Feels like I travel but I never arrive
I want to thrive not just survive

I'm always close but I'm never enough
I'm always in line but I'm never in love
I get so down but I won't give up
I get slowed down but I won't give up

Been fighting things that I can't see in
Like voices coming from the inside of me and
Like doing things I find hard to believe in
Am I myself or am I dreaming?

No I'm not alright
I know that I'm not right
A steering wheel don't mean you can drive
A warm body don't mean I'm alive
No I'm not alright
I know that I'm not right
Feel like I travel but I never arrive
I want to thrive not just survive

I want to thrive not just survive
