My First Attempt at Firearms Training

Below is a brief summary of my experience at Front Sight Firearms Training Institute, one of the best firearms training sites in the country.  Located in Pahrump, Nevada, about an hour's drive west of Las Vegas, I felt like I was in a movie.  An adventure it was... the only thing missing was a Mark Wahlberg sighting!  I kept looking, I promise.  In case you didn't know, Wahlberg trained at Front Sight to prepare for his role in the movie "Shooter."  Now I see why.

I was that girl who shot her gun during malfunction training set up and then cried on the range out of sheer embarrassment.  Attending defensive handgun training at Front Sight was not my idea of a good time but after having Dad purchase me a Smith & Wesson M&P .22 for Christmas, I felt obligated to join him in training.

I’d only shot a gun three times prior to training.  I was by no means a pro.  To the contrary, I wasn’t very good at all.  So going to Front Sight was totally out of my comfort zone.  But as soon as I arrived I felt as though I belonged.  These people were similar to me in their beliefs.  I could already feel it.

The range master and his team were friendly and welcoming yet professional, instantly making me feel at ease.  They made an excellent team in how they presented and instructed.  I always felt safe and was never concerned that something could go wrong.  I’ll admit, I struggled to learn the Weaver Stance, how to focus on the front sight and the entire process of dry practice.  It took the full first day for me to grasp how to handle myself on the range.  On the morning of the second day, as the instructors were showing us how to set up malfunction type 2, I inadvertently set up the gun to shoot instead.  I was overwhelmed and wasn’t sure what I was doing but as professional as the team is, we were safe at all times.  We were instructed to move into firing stance and prepare to shoot (what was supposed to be a malfunction) but my gun went off.  I was shocked and flustered.  The tears began streaming down my face from shock and embarrassment.  Immediately, our Range Master Morello came over to me to see if I was okay and to reassure me that mistakes like this happen and that I was in just the right place for it to occur.  Needless to say, I sat out the rest of the malfunction training but continued to watch from my seat.  As soon as that portion of training was over I jumped right back in the game.  I didn’t want to be the girl who quit training and walked out because of a simple error.  After all, that is why I was at Front Sight!

By the time training was complete, I felt empowered and more prepared for handling a gun.  I would eventually like to go back to Front Sight to continue my training.  The staff is incredibly knowledgable and professional and I am beyond grateful to them for sharing their expertise.  They were extremely patient with me as I continued to make small mistakes - I struggle with learning more than one step at a time - and I couldn’t have asked for a better team to lead on the range.  Top notch!  I highly recommend Front Sight for beginners and professionals.

We All Need Love

I see many people I know and love going through difficult times, questioning their place in life and past choices, feeling a sense of lacking something and posting negative stuff.  I, for one, understand and have done so myself. When you go through depression you so quickly find out who your true friends are - who is standing with you on the other side and who loves you for all of your flaws.  Please be kind to those you see going through something you might not necessarily understand.  We all need love.

Help A Young Mother Seeking Cancer Treatment

A friend posted this story on her Facebook page asking for assistance for another friend.  The story broke my heart - it was of a young mother suffering with stage 4 breast cancer.  I can't stand to sit by and watch someone go untreated.  If you can find it in your heart, and can spare that cup of coffee from your local coffee shop for just one day, please donate a few dollars to help these kids prolong their mother's life.  Every dollar counts!

2014: New Year, New Hope

So we're already eight days into the new year... 2014.  Wow!  Time flies.

This year is already set to be one full of many accomplishments.  Last year was one of new beginnings and a fresh attitude.  A new, thriving business, lots of live music shows to keep my passion alive and kicking and hopefully new friends and maybe even a new man.

Plans to see Justin Timberlake in Seattle this month with one of my closest friends along with experiencing a city I've never been to before.  I'm so excited I could start packing now!

February includes plans to see one of my long time favorite singers perform live in Livermore - the one and only Richard Marx!  I haven't see him perform since the 80s so this should be an exciting show.  Not only is he a super talented singer/songwriter and guitar player, he is also one of the funniest people (besides Mr. Blake Shelton) I follow on Twitter.  Everyday I get a little laughter from reading his posts.  If you don't follow him it's a must: @RichardMarx.  I promise you, even if you don't like he's music, he's quite entertaining as he says the things that most people don't dare to say.  A total crackup.

My favorite band Switchfoot will be performing live in San Francisco.  It's a show I'm eagerly awaiting.  When I see a Switchfoot show, it's like they fill my soul up.  That's the only way to explain it.  Musically and spiritually they kick ass.

Last month I was lucky enough to have the CEO of Live Nation get me front row seats to the One Republic show in June.  Another one of my #1 bands, these guys put on an unforgettable show.  My niece has been dying to see them live for several years after we caught one song at a show in Golden Gate Park.  She's in for a fantastic show!

My business keeps growing and expanding.  I've created my own designs for dangle charms to accentuate the P2 Dream Locket.  We are no ordinary company - we are one of faith and belief that dreams do come true and we are in control of creating our future.  Create your own locket or necklace made of dangle charms and watch your dreams turn into reality!

May 2014 be a year filled with happiness, hope and love.  Keep the faith and remember, there are no accidents.

Peace~
